WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item level Upgrade upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For example, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade items recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades must be acquired through a variety of means, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be used on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them wisely. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
